Energy for a Sustainable Future

Most people today would agree that we simply need to stop relying on foreign oil and develop other means of power which don’t deplete our natural resources. We need energy for a sustainable future. Here are some options to consider.

The first is solar power. We have a practically limitless power source and it comes from the sun. There are number of ways to harness the power of the sun. The first is from solar power cells.

These devices convert the solar energy into electrical energy. It is clean and virtually limitless. The limiting factor right now is cost. It is still rather expensive to build power cells. Therefore the cost of the energy from these cells is higher than would it would be from other sources like oil fired or coal fired electrical power plants.

But this situation is changing. The technology used to produce these panels is constantly improving. Hopefully it will get to the point where it is cost effective to have banks of solar panels around the globe providing abundant, clean and cheap energy.

Another very viable alternative is to generate electrical from wind power. This is also something which is readily available. There are many areas of our country where the winds blow constantly. There are many wind turbines which have been developed to take advantage of this power from the wind.

It converts the power of the wind to drive a turbine which in turn drives a generator. This generator provides abundant electricity. This source of power can be used on a local or individual basis or expanded into hundreds of wind turbines spread throughout a particular area.

Our government needs to enact legislation to encourage the use of these alternative sources of energy. By doing so it will spur further development to make the use of these options even more cost effective and viable in the long run.
